QEII Construction

A milestone has been reached in the construction of the QEII Halifax Infirmary acute care tower. Site preparation has moved to the next phase of breaking rock that is too close to the hospital for safe blasting. Rock breaking can be noisy, but it is a necessary part of construction.  Rock breaking further away from the hospital will be done between 6:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., with work done closer to the hospital not starting until 3:00 in the afternoon. The new tower will add 216 beds, an emergency department twice the size of the current one, 16 operating rooms and a 48 bed intensive care unit.
