The province is adding another 25 officers to the RCMP. The province says the new RCMP billing model will strengthen police services and improve public safety across Nova Scotia. The new billing model means the province will spend an additional $16 million this year and $18 million annually after that. As a result, most communities will see a reduction in policing costs, and the province says none will pay more. The new model takes effect in October, with the funding retroactive to April 1st of this year.
