The number of newborns in Nova Scotia without a family doctor is increasing, raising concerns for their health and their parents. Nearly 16% of registered births last year were referred to the Unattached Newborn Clinic (UNC), a Halifax-based clinic that cares for babies without a primary care provider. The clinic has seen a steady increase in referrals each quarter, with around 941 newborns being referred in 2023
