NDP Comments on NSP Breach

The NDP is demanding answers from Nova Scotia Power. Leader Claudia Chender says the NDP will introduce legislation to allow for free credit freezes, modernize rules about storing personal information and privacy legislation to protect people whose information has been stolen. Chender made the announcement at an emergency legislative meeting today about the cybersecurity breach that saw the personal information of 280,000 customers stolen. Chender says people are angry and frustrated about the response from Nova Scotia Power.

Meanwhile, the utility’s CEO answered questions about the breach today. He said it affected about half of the company’s customers. When asked why they were storing SIN numbers, he wouldn’t answer, citing the investigation
