Mother of newborn dies in hospital

Halifax police have confirmed the mother of the newborn whose remains were found has died in hospital. The 23-year-old woman went to a hospital on Friday night in critical condition and appeared to have just given birth. Police launched a search for the newborn. The remains of the infant were found on Sunday off Old Coach Road in Goodwood. The cause of the mother’s death will be investigated by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner's Service. The infant’s cause of death remains under investigation, and police caution that because of the complexity of the incident, it may take an extended period of time to determine both causes of death.
