Two new reports will be coming from staff of Mahone Bay over the installation of sidewalk patios. Council has heard extensively from the public and has held several meetings. Council has directed staff to prepare a report on the permitting process for patio installations addressing concerns about the approval process. The second will be on potential updates to the 2008 bylaw, including best practices from other Nova Scotian communities addressing pedestrian safety, accessibility and design recommendations aligning with Mahone Bay’s commitment to safety. Both reports will be prepared in time for the next council meeting on July 31st. In a statement council said it is committed to considering revisions to the current bylaw before any further patio permits are issued. More information will be given after the next council meeting.
