The Town of Mahone Bay is applying to the Nova Scotia Energy Board to boost electricity rates by 2.69 per cent. The town says the request is to help offset a rate increase by Nova Scotia Power. Mahone Bay buys electricity from Nova Scotia Power and has just invested in locally owned renewable energy development and says had this not been done, the rate increase for customers would have been higher. The proposed rate increase will not affect customers served by the Riverport Electric Light Commission. Once the rate increase is approved by the board, it will be passed along to customers in the next few months.
