The cost to turn on your lights is going up in Lunenburg.The Nova Scotia Energy Board has approved a request from the town on behalf of Lunenburg Electric Utility to raise rates. This means households who use the average amount of electricity can expect their monthly bills to go up by $14.98 a month. Businesses will see a phased increase of 17.8 per cent. The first year businesses will pay 12.9 per cent more and in the second year a jump of 4.9 per cent. Town officials say the increase is necessary to cover operational costs, increase capacity and improve grid reliability. The increase took effect on October 1st.
