Premier Tim Houston says he sees no “immediate red flags” after a high level briefing with Prime Minister Carney on a new trade deal with the United States. The PM briefed premiers on the negotiations and while Houston stressed the details need to be worked out he says the outcome of the negotiations with the U.S. is the “best possible outcome they could hope for dealing with this administration.” Houston says the Prime Minister did ask provinces to return American alcohol to the shelves of liquor stores and the province will be working through that process pending a final deal with the U.S. However, Houston did address the emotions of Canadians after the long haul of the tariff war and said “whether Canadians and Nova Scotians buy it once it's back on the shelves that’s a whole ‘nother discussion.” Houston called the tariff war with the U.S. a “wake up call” and says the province is working to diversify trading partners and is moving forward with making the province more self-sufficient.
