Canada has shot back with a slew of new tariffs on a long list of American goods, including smartphones, seafood, toilet paper, makeup, and clothing. The retaliatory tariffs range from 25 to 50 per cent. As well, the tariff on American aluminum and steel will increase from 25 to 50 per cent and go into effect on September 8th. In a media conference today, Ottawa announced a $7.5 billion aid package for businesses and workers affected by new American tariffs on Canadian goods, including a new loan program for businesses and flexibility in Employment Insurance for workers.
